Other Tips

  • Do not stay in the same position for a long time. Stop typing for five seconds on every 30 minutes. Stretch overhead and it will improve your posture.

  • Do other works in between like making phone calls, filing to take a break from typing.

  • Change you posture and position, arm rotation, standing up, body twisting etc.

The most common symptoms of a sprained wrist are pain and swelling. The nature of the pain can differ. It can be a dull ache that comes and goes or a constant sharp pain. Pain from a sprained wrist typically goes down within a few days. Activities such as moving your wrist, lifting something with your hand, gripping things, and twisting a doorknob may cause you pain until your wrist heals completely.3

A sprained wrist can appear swollen due to collection of fluid in the area around the injured ligament. The swelling tends to be more obvious when the wrist sprain is severe, so much so that it can change the shape of your wrist.1,3 There may be a black or blue discoloration of the skin, similar to a bruise.1

Common Symptoms Of Wrist Tendonitis

Swelling, pain, stiffness, and muscle fatigue are all common symptoms of wrist tendonitis.

Common symptoms of wrist tendonitis may include one or more of the following:

  • Pain. Wrist tendonitis pain usually develops over a period of time and may be felt as a burning sensation, a sharp stabbing pain, or a constant dull ache. In some cases, the pain may extend up to the elbow or down to the fingers. Touching or gently pressing the affected tendon may also cause pain.
  • Reduced strength. A feeling of weakness in the wrist and forearm area may be experienced while using the affected arm to do physical work. Sometimes, pain may start after doing a physical activity, and in other cases, the pain may remain constant or increase during an activity.
  • Inability to bear weight. Reduced strength in the wrist may cause weight-bearing actions to be painful. For example, push-ups, lifting and/or throwing heavy objects, and even pushing on armrests to get out of a chair may cause wrist pain.

Sometimes, pain and other discomfort may return on activity even after the affected wrist is rested, or after the use of pain-relieving medications.5 Everyday activities such as turning door knobs, shaking hands, or lifting objects may be painful.

Drug Treatment And Surgery

In addition to wearing splints and other comfort measures, prescription medications or injections are available.

Oral corticosteroid medication may decrease inflammation and swelling, which might help to reduce pressure on the median nerve. Corticosteroid medication is also available as an injection into the wrist. Injections seem to be more effective than oral corticosteroids for CTS.

No significant evidence supports the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to treat CTS.

Conventional treatments for CTS should take place under the guidance of a doctor.

If CTS relates to an underlying condition, such as diabetes, arthritis, or hypothyroidism, try to control the condition and symptoms should reduce.

For people who develop CTS during pregnancy, symptoms usually resolve 6 to 12 weeks after giving birth. Some specialists recommend putting a splint on the wrist while sleeping.

Sometimes, if severe compression is occurring on the median nerve, it may be causing nerve damage or muscle wasting that requires further treatment.

The treating doctor may recommend surgery if CTS is severe and if non-surgical treatments do not help. Surgical treatment of CTS does appear to have the best outcome. Studies have shown that 6 to 12 months after surgery, CTS improves more than it would with just a splint or some other non-surgical treatment.

    Exercise For Arthritis In The Wrist

    Doctors diagnose a wrist sprain based on how the injury occurred. For example, you may be asked to describe the position of your wrist during a fall. A coach or trainers eyewitness account may help make a diagnosis of a sprained wrist in a sportsperson. Also, the doctor will ask you about your history of previous wrist injuries. He or she will also perform a physical examination. During the exam, the doctor will check for wrist stability and grip strength.

    What Are The Causes Of A Sprained Wrist

    A sprained wrist is usually the result of an accident or a fall. For this reason, wrist sprains are more frequent during icy and snowy weather conditions when people are more likely to slip and fall.1 A wrist sprain can also occur during a car accident in which the wrist is bent or twisted severely.3

    Athletes are at increased risk of suffering from a sprained wrist. Injuries to the wrist and hand are fairly common among sports enthusiasts who play basketball, football, and baseball. Other sports that have been linked to a high rate of wrist sprains include boxing, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, volleyball, and ice hockey.1

    Skiing deserves a special mention as a potential cause of sprained wrists.
