How Do I Place My Tens Machines Electrode Pads For Sciatica
To handle and pain related to sciatica, use either two, or most preferably, four electrode pads placed above and under the area on pain. DO NOT place the pads directly on the spine, but you can without any problem place the pads vertically on either side of the spine.
You can also place two of the electrode pads on the high part of the backside of your legs and experiment with the placement of them as shown in the image.
Tens Therapy For Shoulder Pain Relief
TENS units are used for almost any shoulder pain injury. They’re often used for chronic or acute pain, bursitis, frozen shoulder, a tendon tear, rotator cuff injuries, or soreness. Because of the ability to place TENS pads virtually anywhere, you’re able to target the source of the shoulder pain for treatment.
With most shoulder injuries, the range of motion is compromised. TENS therapy can help regain that motion by allowing you to rotate your shoulder without feeling pain.

A TENS / EMS Unit can be a great tool for helping to reduce and relieve shoulder pain. Here are some pad placements to relieve different types of shoulder pain.;
Some common shoulder injuries that may benefit from a TENS/EMS unit include things like;rotator cuff tears, labral tears, sprains, strains, tendonitis, bursitis, SLAP tears, frozen shoulder, shoulder impingement, shoulder replacements , and general arthritis.
TENS is used to help reduce pain and increase circulation. Basically the vibration of the TENS follows the same pathway as the pain pathway to the brain and helps cancel it out. It is a great alternative to pain medication. A TENS uses two or four electrodes with cross currents to surround the area. The deep vibration/massage helps relax the muscles and allow for healing. You should not get a muscle contraction when using TENS.
Healthmate Forever has a wide variety of TENS/EMS Units and pads. The unit I’m using in this video is the T40AB.
Shoulder Electrode Pad Placement
Follow the pictographic for proper shoulder;electrode pad placement. For best results, keep to the size of electrode pads shown in the pictographic: small. Unless you have other specific medical instruction, follow the placement directions in the photos. ExcelHealth, Inc. assumes no responsibility for electrode pad positioning in any other manner.
For shoulder pain, electrode pads can be applied to inflicted area using either two or four pads at a time. Pads should be applied at the perimeter of the painful area sticky side down. Please ensure that pads are two to three inches apart. You may try placing pads on the upper arm, on the front and back sides of the shoulder and/or at the top of the shoulder just behind the collarbone or below the neck.

For shoulder injuries, place the TENS electrode pads right over the area of pain. Start by placing the electrodes on the shoulders where you feel the most pain. Set the unit and adjust as necessary until you find pain relief. If you are not feeling relief, moving the electrodes around on the skin to just the right area can increase the amount of pain relief you feel.
Where To Put Tens Pads For Neck Pain
Where to Put TENS Pads for Neck Pain
If you have neck pain due to a whiplash injury due to an auto accident or chronic pain following a workers comp injury, a TENS unit can help. You will place small pads on your skin, and then the device will deliver a low electrical current to the painful area. You can adjust the intensity to your desired level and should experience immediate pain relief. Before you use a TENS unit to treat your neck pain, you need to know where to place the pads. Find out where you need to put the pads and how you should use the unit.
TENS is considered a medical-grade device, and you will likely need a prescription from your doctor to get the equipment. In any case, you should consult with an experienced New York neck injury doctor or a specialist like a neurologist before using a TENS unit.
Where to Place the TENS Pads on Your Neck
You should place the TENS pads on the back of your neck, at least an inch apart. If your unit has two channels, you can place four pads. If that is the case, put two of the pads on the back of the neck and the other two on top of your shoulder blades. The pads on your neck and the pads on your shoulder blades will operate on different channels, meaning you can use different programs for each one. TENS units typically have settings for different types of pain. Go through the menu to find the right setting for your pad placement.

What Are The Parts Of A Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Device And How Do They Work
The battery-powered TENS device is about the size of a small cell phone. The device comes with several sets of electrode wires and end pads. The electrodes connect to the device at one end and are attached to about 2 inch by 2 inch pads at the other end. Each pad has an adhesive backing and is positioned on your skin in specific areas along nerve pathways in the area to be treated.
The device delivers pulses of electrical energy. Pulses can be adjusted for intensity, frequency, duration, and type . A doctor, physical therapist, or acupuncturist determines and adjusts the machines settings.

Where And When To Not Use Tens Machines
TENS ;electrodes;should NEVER be placed:
- Across your eyes or brain
- On the front of your neck due to the risk of acute hypotension or even a laryngospasm
- Through the chest . Either side of your spinal column is permitted.
- Across an artificial cardiac pacemaker , including across its leads) due to risk of interference and failure of the implanted device. Serious accidents have been recorded in cases when this principle was not observed.
- On open wounds or broken skin areas .
- Over a malignant tumour .
- Directly over the spinal column .
- Internally, except for specific applications of dental, vaginal, and anal stimulation that employ specialised TENS units.
- Epilepsy patients
- On areas of numb skin/decreased sensation TENS should be used with caution because its likely less effective due to nerve damage. It may also cause skin irritation due to the inability to feel currents until they are too high.
- Areas of Infection. Theres an unknown level of risk when placing electrodes over an infection . Cross contamination with the electrodes themselves is of greater concern.
- Patients who are non compliant or have dementia
