/4the Right Way To Eat Cauliflower

Fresh cauliflower has 30 per cent more protein and many different types of antioxidants as compared to others. Besides, raw cauliflowers contain the maximum amount of antioxidants overall. When cooked the indole level in the cauliflower increases. Cauliflower can be eaten in different ways, but if you are more prone to digestive issues then it is best to always eat cooked cauliflower. Also, try to eat cauliflower in moderation for better digestive health. Avoid boiling it in water because that loses the most antioxidants.

Learn The Common Causes And Home Remedies For Stomach Pain

My stomach hurts. If you have children, chances are youve heard this statement at least once.

Stomach pain is one of the most common complaints among children and teens. It can range from mild discomfort to severe cramping, burning or nausea. While most cases arent serious, its helpful to know what can cause stomach pain and when to call a doctor.

Here are some of the most frequent causes of stomach problems in small children and teens:

Gas pain or indigestion is common in kids of all ages. Diet often plays a role. Carbonated drinks, such as soda may upset the stomach, especially if the child drinks through a straw. Spicy foods, beans, citrus and caffeine may cause gas.

Younger kids may not know what constipation is or that it can lead to stomach pain. If your child complains of stomach pain around the belly button or the left lower side of the abdomen, ask them when they last pooped, or if theyre having problems doing it.

Too much of anything, from pizza and popcorn to Halloween candy, can cause abdominal pain. Kids often eat quickly and dont realize theyre full until theyve overdone it. Plus, eating too quickly can contribute to discomfort.

    Lactose intolerance

    Milk allergy

Milk allergy is a reaction to a protein in milk that may cause cramps. It is not the same as lactose intolerance.

How To Get Rid Of Gastroparesis Naturally

Gastroparesis is a condition in which the stomach motility does not function properly. When stomach muscles are strong and healthy, they push the food forward along the digestive tract, until it is ready to be released through the bowels. In gastroparesis, the motility is limited or does not work at all, so the stomach does not empty completely. This way, gastroparesis interferes with normal digestion, leading to nausea or vomiting.

Different Stages Of Following A Gastroparesis Diet

    Stage 1

In stage 1 of a gastroparesis diet, your doctor will most likely put you on a liquid diet. A dietician will ensure youre receiving adequate nutrition. Fiber foods should be avoided during this stage along with fatty foods and dairy products. Soups and beverages like sports drinks and soft drinks are permitted.

A typical day in stage one would include ½ cup of sports drink, ½ cup of ginger ale, ¾ cup of bouillon, and six saltine crackers. Lunch and dinner are the same with the only difference being the soft drink you could opt for cola or citrus soft drinks.

    Stage 2

A typical menu in this stage would include ½ cup of skim milk, one poached egg, one slice of white toast, and ½ cup of apple juice for breakfast. Your lunch may contain two ounces of mozzarella cheese, six saltine crackers, ¾ cup of chicken soup, and ½ cup of sports drink.

Dinner may involve one tablespoon of peanut butter, six saltine crackers, ½ cup of vanilla pudding, and ½ cup of grape juice. Snacks include soft drinks, frozen yogurt, saltine crackers, canned pears, corn cereal, and two tablespoons of sugar.

    Stage 3

    /4the Problem With Cauliflower

All kinds of cruciferous vegetables contain raffinose, which is a type of carbohydrate. Raffinose occurs naturally in some plants, but our body is not equipped with a proper enzyme to help break it down. This means when you consume the food items containing this carbohydrate, it travels from the small intestine to the large intestine undigested. When they finally enter the large intestine, the bacteria present there begin to ferment it, which causes bloating and gas.

This is not all. Cauliflowers also contain sulfur-containing chemicals called glucosinolates. When these chemicals break down in the stomach, they form compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, which is the reason behind the smelly fart that you pass on after eating cauliflower.

    Consider A Digestive Aid

You might consider an over-the-counter digestive aid if your discomfort persists despite trying other measures. Chewing a couple of antacid tablets can help, especially if you are experiencing heartburn as well as stomach discomfort.

Products containing bismuth subsalicylate claim to relieve a variety of digestive symptoms that might plague you after eating too much, including indigestion, heartburn and stomach upset. How To Treat Diarrhea

6 Foods That Cause Bloating And Swelling In The Stomach

When you have diarrhea, remember to drink plenty of water and prevent dehydration. Your body is losing more water than usual through watery stool.

The amount of water you need each day varies based on your sex, age, activity level, and build, so there are no official guidelines, but many sources suggest 8 or more 8-ounce glasses per day. Read more here.

Eating certain foods can also help ease diarrhea. The following diets can help:

    • the BRAT diet, which stands for bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast
    • a bland diet that includes soft, low fiber foods like low fat dairy, processed grains, and lean protein

Potassium-rich bananas are gentle on the stomach lining and help you absorb water and electrolytes you might otherwise lose through waste.

A caffeine-free, herbal tea with ginger or peppermint might also calm your bowels.

If you need to take over-the-counter medication, plenty of choices are available.

Loperamide and bismuth subsalicylate are the most common active ingredients in medications that help relieve diarrhea. However, dont take OTC medications for diarrhea if your symptoms also include fever or blood in your stool.

You can usually treat diarrhea at home with plenty of water and low fiber foods. Medications are also available.

Swap Unhealthy Fats To Reduce Bloat

Including too much fat in your diet will likely result in a full feeling, increased bloat, and digestive disturbance. Balancing healthy and unhealthy fats will help eliminate some of these symptoms. Healthy fat turns on the hormone leptin, which helps signal to your body when your stomach is full. It also dials down the hunger hormone ghrelin so that you feel as if you are satiated, Dr. Shemek says.

Keep in mind that although healthy fats are good for you, they can cause discomfort and expansion of the stomach as well. For instance, peanut butter can be hard to digest and can cause the abdominals to feel tight and distended, which may be linked to a food intolerance or an unknown peanut allergy. Experiment with other nut spreads such as cashew or almond butter as an alternative to reduce bloat.

Avocados are another popular healthy fat but should be proportioned wisely. They contain salicylates, which cause gas, bloating, and stomach pain, so eating too much could result in adverse effects. Try swapping avocado with hummus or edamame for a healthy alternative.

If you regularly suffer from bloat, take a look at your diet first. Even some of the healthiest foods can leave our digestive systems in a bit of distress. Try these easy foods swaps to reduce bloat next time your system is feeling a bit under pressure.

Identify Which Vegetables And Spices Cause Bloating

Wed never recommend cutting vegetables from your diet, but its important to know which ones typically result in symptoms of bloat. Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, and carrots have been known to induce gas because of their high sugar and starch contents. So, enjoy these with cautionor on a day you dont need to squeeze into your skinniest jeans.

Certain cruciferous greens and high-fiber vegetables can also leave you feeling puffy. For example, broccoli and kale are high in fiber, making it difficult for the body to break them down. Try sautéing greens and other vegetables in olive or coconut oil instead of eating them raw to reduce bloating.

Pay attention to the vegetables you use in cooking, too. Sulfurous vegetables like onions and garlic cause bloating because they contain fructooligosaccharides that naturally occur in plants like onions, garlic, and asparagus, Bristol adds. If you regularly feel bloated after consuming these flavorful vegetables, Bristol recommends cooking with spices and onion-flavored oils to keep the flavor but decrease the bloat.

How To Prevent Gas From Beans

How to Calm an Upset Stomach Naturally

Try lentils first! They are usually easier on your digestion. Ease your way into eating more beans and other legumes start with one tablespoon a day, which should be unproblematic.

Increase the amount slowly, at any pace that feels comfortable to you! Rinsing your beans well reduces the amount of gas-producing sugar.

Consuming pureed beans, as in hummus or dips, is easier for your intestines to digest!

If you cook your own beans, soak them for several hours and discard the water before cooking them.

    Go Easy With The Beans

Beans are great for you and are really filling. I love beans, and I eat them often! But if youre not used to regularly eating legumes, they can sometimes cause stomach issues.

If you can include beans in your diet without a problem, then I highly recommend you do. They do contain some anti-nutrients, but overall, studies have shown that they are linked with increased longevity and health.

If youre having issues after eating beans, it can be because youve taken too many antibiotics, so it might just take a bit more time to adjust. You can try to improve your gut by taking probiotics.

If you still have problems after many weeks have passed, they would be one of the first foods Id try to eliminate.

How Long Does Bloating Last When Going Vegan

If you experience an average level of bloating on a vegan diet, you can cut back on fiber, whole beans or cauliflower and broccoli for a while.

Increase the portion size of these foods slowly or eat them in pureed form until your gut bacteria is used to them!

Treatment And Home Remedies For Abdominal Pain

Incomplete emptying of bowel can be very unpleasant and can cause ...

How abdominal pain is treated is highly dependent on the diagnosis. Medications that reduce inflammation may help with stomach pains resulting from ulcers.

But other conditions, like kidney stones, may require more intensive treatment like shock wave lithotripsy. Inflammation of the gall bladder might require gall bladder surgery.

Your doctor might prescribe a pain-modifying drug, like amitriptyline or trazodone, to address the pain. These may help change the way the brain processes pain signals.

If you and your doctor have determined that your abdominal pain is not the result of a serious medical condition, there are a number of home health remedies that may provide relief. Heres a brief list:

    • bitters and soda
    • BRAT diet
    • peppermint

Not all forms of abdominal pain are preventable. But you can minimize the risk of developing abdominal pain by:

    • eating a healthy diet
    • exercising regularly
    • eating smaller meals

If you have an intestinal disorder, like Crohns disease, follow the diet your doctor has given you to minimize discomfort. If you have GERD, dont eat within 2 hours of bedtime.

Lying down too soon after eating may cause heartburn and abdominal pain. Try waiting at least 2 hours after eating before lying down.
