When we sleep, we unconsciously bend our hands. Some people keep their hands bent forward while others keep them bent backward. And you can maintain this position for several hours at a time.That’s very harmful.

Never wear a restrictive wrist brace during the day as you work with your hand. Doing so only makes your wrist subconsciously fight the restriction in addition to doing its regular job. Such stress makes carpal tunnel syndrome much worse.
Also, be sure to wear a certified carpal tunnel night brace.Wearing the wrong kind of brace can do more damage to your wrist. For instance, NEVER wear a night brace that contains a palmar spine . Carpal tunnel syndrome affects about three out of every 100 people in the United States, although some estimates place the number higher. What Are The Symptoms Of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Symptoms usually start gradually, with frequent numbness or tingling in the fingers, especially the thumb and the index and middle fingers. Some people with CTS say their fingers feel useless and swollen, even though little or no swelling is apparent. The symptoms often first appear in one or both hands during the night. The dominant hand is usually affected first and produces the most severe symptoms. A person with CTS may wake up feeling the need to shake out the hand or wrist. As symptoms worsen, people might feel tingling during the day, especially with certain activities such as talking on the phone, reading a book or newspaper, or driving. Hand weakness may make it difficult to grasp small objects or perform other manual tasks. In chronic and/or untreated cases, the muscles at the base of the thumb may waste away. Some people with very severe CTS cannot determine between hot and cold by touch, and may burn their fingertips without knowing it.

Where Does Carpal Tunnel Hurt
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway at the base of your hand where tendons and nerves, including the median nerve, pass through. The median nerve controls sensation to the palm side of your thumb and the index, middle and ring finger.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is a painful condition that is caused when inflammation puts pressure on the median nerve.
Located on the same side of your hand as your palm, the median nerve delivers sensation to fingers as well as impulses to the muscle leading to the thumb.
When the wrist swells as a result of overuse, it can compress the nerve. In addition to pain, it can cause tingling, weakness or numbness near the thumb.
The common cause of the inflammation in the wrist can be due to an underlying medical condition, such as diabetes, high blood pressure, rheumatoid arthritis or thyroid dysfunction. Obstructed blood flow can also cause inflammation.
CTS can be worsened by repetitive tasks, such as the position youre in when typing or using a computer mouse. Not doing those activities can relieve symptoms of CTS, but because the activities are required for work, many people cannot afford to take significant breaks.
There are other ways to relieve carpal tunnel, says Michael Cunningham, M.D., an orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Bayshore Medical Center. Some treatments deliver a short-term reprieve, but permanent relief for severe pain usually requires surgery.
