    I am about two years post-op. It has taken that long fully to heal. But I was impatient and tore into rehab and perhaps I overdid it. Now I can ride a bike and walk for miles and miles. I do squats in the gym, do personal training and lead a yoga class. Iâm seventy years old and I am relatively pain-free. After my TKR I got certified in personal training since Iâd always been interested in fitness. I am not a yoga adept per se but the people I train wanted one day a week for yoga and so I teach what little I know and which I have made my own. I canât do yoga with as much flexibility as I once had, nor can I go fully down or lift as much with my squatting as I could before the TKR. But given my age there are many things I canât do as I once used to! Having the TKR was a great thing for me. Now I have to learn to pull back a bit and accept the limitations as well as the positives of my new knee. I would do it againâ¦. and I may have to some day. It has been a great thing for me.

    I had a rude awakening along about week 4It would have been nice to know this beforehand.

    I guess I am now in the Post-acute phase.but at least I am back at work.

    I first began suffering the pain and symptons of patellar tendonitis near the start of this year. It has taken a long time to recover from this painful condition and every now and then I still feel a ‘tweak’ of pain in my knee.

    Naturally, I find myself wondering how long it could take before my patellar tendonitis eventually heals completely.

    Know When To See Your Doctor

    While many conditions that cause knee pain can be helped by exercise, in some instances it may not be appropriate, says Dr. Lauren Elson, an instructor in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. You should stop exercising and see a doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:

    If your injury is more severe, or it doesnt get better over time, your GP may refer you to a physiotherapist. You can also choose to see a physiotherapist privately.

    A physiotherapist will create a programme of exercises to gradually strengthen your knee so you can move it normally again. But your physiotherapist will probably give you exercises to do every day at home, as well as at your follow-up appointments.

    What Are Risk Factors For A Knee Injury

    High-impact sports, including running, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, cycling, and others, can increase the risk of knee pain and injury. Sports where shoes with cleats are worn and sharp, sudden changes in direction are made, along with contact sports, are common risks for knee injury. Exercise, such as high-impact cardiovascular activity or yoga, can also cause knee injury.

    The elderly may be at higher risk for knee injury due to falls and osteoporosis.

    Women may be at higher risk for anterior cruciate ligament injuries and patellar injuries. This is due to the anatomy of a woman’s hips and femur and the angle at which the knee is tilted. This can lead to chondromalacia patella , an inflammation or irritation of the underside of the patella.

    Being overweight can be a risk factor for knee injury, as excess weight puts more stress on the lower extremity joints.

    Overuse and overtraining, improper or insufficient training for a sport, or not properly rehabilitating acute injuries can also predispose a person to knee injuries.

    What To Expect With Sprains And Strains

    Where Will I Feel Knee Replacement Pain

    As mentioned above, knee replacement pain can come in many different forms depending on the cause. Knee pain is to be expected due to the surgical procedure itself, with swelling, bruising, and the introduction of prosthetic parts.

    Beyond that, it is possible to feel pain in parts of the body other than your knee. This is known as referred pain.

    Your hips, lower back, groin area, and calves may initially hurt due to the change in your stance and the way you walk. Of course, it is also typical to feel sore due to extended amounts of time in bed during your recovery.
