Getting The Most From Your Treatment

  • Most people improve within a few days of starting treatment. If your symptoms do not improve despite taking nitrofurantoin, go back to see your doctor, as you may need an alternative antibiotic. This is because some bacteria are resistant to some types of antibiotics.
  • Nitrofurantoin can turn your urine a yellow/brown colour. This is quite harmless.

There is no need to use additional precautions for any bouts of sickness or diarrhoea which last for less than 24 hours.

Ive taken antibiotics before but had never taken this one, and never have I had such bad side effects. Im a healthy 22 years old and I felt so sick I could barely get out of bed. I felt constantly nauseous and what made it worse is I couldnt eat at all because it made me lose my appetite. I had hot and cold flashes and really bad chills. I almost passed out multiple times and felt so weak. I only took 4 out of 7 days because of how awful I felt. DO NOT TAKE THIS.

I didnt think I was at risk of side effects and as had taken it 18 months previous I imagined I would be fine but my goodness how wrong can one be? I woke in the night after the second pill and my chest was sore and crackling. I felt short of breath, my heart was beating so fast I could hear it in my ears. It was like i had flu or something, chills and fever. Also my feet felt like they were on fire so did my face. I had the running to the bathroom problem that most other folk have mentioned and the sickly feeling too. The worse thing was the feeling of anxiety it caused. Its a truly horrible experience one I never wish to go through again. If youre offered this med ask for a different one.

This drug is poison. About 5 hours after taking this drug, I had a fever, chills, shortness of breath – I thought I had COVID. I stopped taking it since I had just the beginnings of a UTI. A week later, I thought the UTI was trying to come back, so I took a dose . I woke up even worse than I had with the first try. Wheezing, horrible shortness of breath, fever, chills, body aches, headache behind my eyes. Obviously, I stopped taking the pills. I took Benadryl and ibuprofen and the next morning I was back to normal. This was a terrifying experience.
