Doctors For Neck And Ear Pain In Singapore

If you suffer with neck and ear pain do not despair. Many patients are finding relief in our Singapore Upper Cervical Chiropractic offices where our doctors specialise in detecting and correcting spinal Subluxations that occur at the base of the skull where the brainstem sits. Let us explain.

Your head weighs about 5 kilograms and rests on the top bone in the neck called the atlas that weighs 60 grams! This small bone and its two joints bear the weight of the entire head . As a result, it is an unstable junction of the spine and is susceptible to spinal injury, moreso than the rest of the neck or spine. Sudden movements or other acceleration deceleration injuries can damage the supporting soft tissue that give the head neck junction stability.

This results in spinal misalignment and nervous system irritation which leads to not only neck and ear pain but a plethora of other problems in the body. Because the upper cervical spine houses the brainstem if it becomes Subluxated it can have negative consequences on the entire body.

The brain stem is responsible for controlling all body functions that are not under our conscious control. Heart function, muscle tone regulation, respiratory function, blood pressure regulation, thermo regulation are all directly controlled by the brainstem. This vital center can result in a host of ailments that most would not relate to a neck injury, including neck and ear pain.

Symptoms Of Pain Behind The Ear And Down The Neck

Pain down the neck and behind the ear is not a condition in itself. Ear and neck pain are usually symptomatic of other health issues and will usually be accompanied by other symptoms. For example, an ear infection can cause neck pain behind the ear on one side of your head and could be accompanied by swelling or discharge from your right or left ear.

Associated symptoms of pain behind the ear and neck can include:

  • Throbbing pain in the neck and on one side of your head
  • Shock-like pains at the top of your neck and behind your ear
  • Redness of the ear or behind the ear that is sore to touch
  • Soreness when turning your head from side to side
  • Intense pain from your jaw that extends behind one ear
  • An aching toothache that radiates pain to your ear
  • Increased sensitivity to light along with a thumping headache

Cholestetoma, ear wax blockage, sinusitis, parotitis, oropharyngeal infections, and tongue cancers could be the culprit. Sometimes the pain is referred to the ear . Call your doctor.

While the list below can be considered as a guide to educate yourself about these conditions, this is not a substitute for a diagnosis from a health care provider. There are many other medical conditions that also can be associated with your symptoms and signs. Here are a number of those from MedicineNet:

Other Symptoms Of A Sinus Infection

The symptoms of a sinus infection often resemble those of a bad cold. These can include a runny nose, headache, facial pain, and nasal congestion. In addition to typical cold symptoms, a sinus infection may cause yellow- or green-tinged mucus. You may also experience post-nasal drip and a sore throat, along with puffiness and soreness around the face and sinuses. You may also have a dry, unproductive cough and a fever. Fatigue and bad breath are also symptoms of sinus infections.

Different sinuses also present different types of pain if infected. For example, infection of the sinuses around your eyes may result in red, puffy eyes that look like an allergic flare-up, while infection of the sinuses in your cheeks may cause excessive bad breath and pain in your teeth.

What Is A Neck Abscess

Ear Pain , TMJ & Tinnitus

A neck abscess is a collection of pus from an infection in spaces between the structures of the neck. As the amount of pus increases, the soft tissue spaces expand and push against the structures in the neck, such as the throat, tongue, and, in extreme cases, the trachea . Neck abscesses are sometimes called cervical abscesses or deep neck infections.

There are several types of neck abscesses that are found in children, including the following:

  • Retropharyngeal abscess. An abscess that forms behind the pharynx often following an upper respiratory infection. In children, the lymph nodes in this area can become infected and break down, forming pus. Retropharyngeal abscesses are most common in young children, because these lymph nodes atrophy by the time a child reaches puberty.

  • Peritonsillar abscess . An abscess that forms in the tissue walls beside the tonsils . Peritonsillar abscesses are most common in adolescents and young adults and are rarely seen in young children.

  • Submandibular abscess . An abscess beneath the tissues in the floor of the mouth. Pus collects under the tongue, pushing it upwards and toward the back of the throat, which can cause breathing and swallowing problems. Ludwig’s angina is not common in young children but may occur in older adolescents, especially after a dental infection.

Warning Signs To Watch Out For

The risk of having any of these complications is extremely low, Chandrasekhar says. And thanks to advances in treatments, complications have become even more rare.

But there are a few signs to be on the lookout for. Pain that continues to get worse, changes in your mental state, or a very high spiking fever are all indications theres potentially something serious going on, Chandrasekhar says.

To better your chances of recovery, visit your doctor as soon as you notice any of these symptoms.

Symptoms Of A Tooth Infection

Generally, the pain of a tooth infection will send you to the dentist pretty quick, but not always. There are some other signs of a dental abscess you may notice, as well.

  • Sometimes, the tooth will become dark because the necrotic pulp from inside the tooth has leaked out into the porous layer of the tooth. You may not have any pain at all in this case.
  • You may only notice pain when you eat or if you press down on the tooth, but it may not bother you at other times. This happens when the infection has spread into the bum and bone. In these cases, the pain will eventually increase to the point where the throbbing and pulsing are so severe, they cant be relieved with medication.
  • You may notice a small bump on the gum, near the base of the infected tooth, that looks like a puss-filled pimple. This is usually accompanied by a foul odor or taste in the mouth.
  • Swollen lymph nodes or swelling of the face and jaw signal a tooth infection. The swelling may cause pain in your jaw, as well. Sometimes, you will develop a fever as well.

You should also be aware that a tooth infection can sometimes have no visible or physical symptoms. This happens when the nerve has become so damaged, it no longer responds to stimuli, so it doesnt cause pain. In this case, the dental infection may not be detected until you have a dental x-ray.

When & How To Seek Medical Care

Occipital neuralgia can be very difficult to diagnose because of its similarities with migraines and other headache disorders. Therefore, it is important to seek medical care when you begin feeling unusual, sharp pain in the neck or scalp and the pain is not accompanied by nausea or light sensitivity. Begin by addressing the problem with your primary care physician. They may refer you to a specialist.
